2020 Summer Reading Requirements
Grade 9
9A |
All entering grade 9A students will choose and read one book from the 9th grade reading list.

9Honors |
All entering grade 9 Honors students will read the introduction and PART ONE: “The Gods, the Creation, and the Earliest Heroes” in Mythology by Edith Hamilton AND a book of your choice from the 9th grade reading list.

Grade 10
10A |
All entering grade 10A students will choose and read one book from the 10th grade reading list.

10Honors |
All entering grade 10 Honors students will read The Crucible by Arthur Miller and will choose and read one book from the 10th grade reading list.

AP Seminar |
All entering grade 10/11 AP Seminar students will choose and read one non-fiction book from the list of AP Seminar choices, and complete the assigned tasks.

Grade 11
11A |
All entering grade 11A students will choose and read one book from the 11th grade reading list.

11Honors |
All entering grade 11 Honors students will read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and one book from the 11th grade reading list.

11AP |
All entering grade 11 AP students will read either Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly (adult version) OR The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, and a book of your choice from the 11th grade list. You will also participate in the New York Times Summer Reading Contest.

* "Although the New York Times considers this a contest, for the purposes of English 11 AP summer reading the posts are required. To demonstrate your participation, read these directions."

All entering grade 12 Monsters, Murder, and Madness Honors will choose and read one book or podcast from the Monster Book List, and read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

All entering 12 AP students will read How to Read Literature Like a Professor (Revised) by Thomas C. Foster, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, and one text from the AP reading list that is NOT on our list for 12AP or any other course at Old Rochester.
